The use of Lime bikes as provider of e-bike services in Richmond was last discussed on EastSheenMatters on 28 June 2025. It was reported then that the Council would be considering the matter further at a meeting of the Transport and Air Quality Committee in or about September 2025.
Hounslow Council has surely influenced thinking by terminating its contract with Lime. From 11 August Forest and Voi will become the borough’s exclusive e-bike operators. Residents had voiced concerns over poor parking compliance and slow response times, issues that have been linked to Lime’s operations.
Under the new contracts, Forest and Voi will introduce several improvements. Pricing will be reduced, with targeted discounts for residents, low-income users, and local businesses. Parking enforcement will be strengthened through advanced technology and stricter bay usage rules. Safety will be prioritised with induction training, moderated speeds, and incentive programmes.
This is particularly pertinent on a day when it was reported that three people on Lime bikes robbed a walker in Richmond Park, It ought to be possible to track bikes and respond to their illegal usage as a matter of urgency.
The new fleet in Hounslow will expand to include lighter models and trial options such as cargo baskets and child seats. Customer support will be available 24/7 in multiple languages, and operations will be powered by zero-emission service vehicles. The scheme also includes partnerships with community organisations and apprenticeship opportunities to support local engagement.
A council spokesperson said the decision was ‘shaped by widespread community feedback’ which found residents wanted ‘stronger parking compliance, faster response times to resident concerns, and more tailored and affordable pricing’.
So whither Richmond?
