Down Decibel Drive

An Ode to Heathrow by Brian Coope our local singer and founder of Stiff Joints

Starting with the sound of distant thunder

Rising to a climax overhead

A bleary-eyed four thirty in the morning

Hours before the birds are out of bed

Soon they all just become a number

As they form the great queue in the sky

Hear the rumble and roar down Decibel Drive

And the second hand reads eighty five again

Keep the windows closed on a summer’s day

If you want to hear the music play my friend

If you want to cause the maximum disruption

To the greatest number of people down below

Find a lousy place to build an airport

It’s already here — the place is called Heathrow

Still they fly in the face of reason

And repeat all the wrongs of long ago

Add a runway here and a terminal there

Increase the noise ‘cos they don’t care  Oh no

For airport chiefs their ground to give

We gonna have to make them live in Hounslow
