Waitrose Car Park East Sheen: A New Regime

Cameras have now been installed in the Waitrose Car Park, enabling Automatic Number Plate Recognition, to enforce Britannia Parking Conditions. The signage is somewhat misleading. It reads that the car park is regularly patrolled by mobile parking enforcement teams. Has anyone seen them?

But don’t be misled because the small icon at the bottom of the picture refers to ANPR. And the cameras will enable stricter enforcement of the time limits. So if you shop, return home and then go back to get something you forgot, the company is likely to try to extract a penalty. You might have slipped in for ten minutes and then return. You will still fall foul of the conditions. You might have parked and gone to the surgery. Tough.

This looks to be typical of the aggressive attitude these money-making organisations adopt.

The cameras are sited at the entrance to the car park just to the right of the side door.

BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY

Waitrose Customer Service Desk say that if you do have a problem you should consult them and they will be able to help.

I wonder how car visitors to the residents of Model Cottages will be dealt with?

The restrictions don’t seem unreasonable. I mean, you’d have to be a runner buying a single thing to get in and out of here in 10 minutes, and given the short distances involved for most people, there are often other transport options available.

This might eventually put an end to the people who park across bays, 0r at angles hindering access to the next bay. I understand why they have introduced the “no return within two hours” rule, but there are times when it can be done without the intent to extract more parking hours.
