Waitrose Yellow Box

EastSheenMatters sent its representatives for a coffee at Valentina this morning. Sitting quietly sipping they observed six cars in five minutes stopped in the yellow box at the junction of the Upper Richmond Road and the Waitrose Car Park exit.

That’s a profitable few minutes for TfL!

The Collaboration Choir in East Sheen

The Collaboration Choir is launching six new pop choirs across South West London this Autumn – one of which is in East Sheen!

All six are led by new Choir Director Luke Sitaraman, a west Londoner. He’s a recent Oxford graduate with a first-class degree in music andhas sung as a Lay Clerk at Christ Church Cathedral in Oxford.

Raised on road-trip playlists that swung between Katy Perry and Rascal Flatts, his musical experience spans early music, jazz, new music and now, very firmly, pop! In his words: ‘I find the humour in everything I do, so expect plenty of laughing alongside the singing.’

New groups are starting in Wimbledon, Richmond, Putney, Kew, East Sheen and Hammersmith, and three of them meet during the day. So whether you’re free at 10.30am on a Tuesday or 8pm on a Thursday, there’s now a choir nearby. The groups welcome complete beginners alongside more experienced singers, and free trial sessions are available.

The six new choirs:

  • Wimbledon: Tuesdays, 10.30am – 12noon, St Andrew’s Church Hall
  • Kew: Tuesdays, 8 – 9.30pm, St Anne’s Church Hall
  • Richmond: Wednesdays, 10.30am – 12noon, St Andrew’s Church Hall
  • Putney: Wednesdays, 8 – 9.30pm, Community Church Putney
  • East Sheen: Thursdays, 11.30am – 1pm, All Saints Church Hall
  • Hammersmith: Thursdays, 8 – 9.30pm, Hammersmith Christian Fellowship

Nepal Disaster Relief Fund

Annapurna a Nepalese Restaurant in East Sheen has raised £2750 for the Nepal Disaster Relief Fund.

In August 2026 at least 1,450 people were killed in floods triggered by a glacial collapse near the Nepal-Tibet border, with 5,000 still missing including more than 30 British nationals.

Following news of the catastrophe, Raj Sharma, owner of Annapurna, and his team decided to host a lunch and a dinner to raise funds to support the enormous relief and rehabilitation efforts in their native Nepal.

“This disaster has affected us all, either directly or indirectly, and we wanted to do something positive to help, which is why we organized a lunch and dinner event on 20 and 21 September and invited our customers and community to join us.”

“Both events were fantastically well supported and the wonderful generosity of our community took the total up to £2,750. We are deeply grateful to everyone who came, dined and contributed.”

Annapurna’s regular team were joined by three extra members of the Sharma family, and it was all hands on deck to serve up fresh and delicious set menus to a packed restaurant.

The event was kindly supported by a number of Annapurna’s suppliers, including – locally – East Sheen’s Ragu Italian Deli (https://www.instagram.com/raguitaliandeli/) for the delicious tiramisu dessert and Wineservice wine merchants (www.wineservice.co.uk), owned by local businessman, Nick Hillman.

The money raised has been sent to Nepal’s official Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund (https://pmdrf.nchl.com.np)

Heathrow Again

Airport authorities have now announced that a third runway at Heathrow is unlikely to operate until 2039. One might add – if then.

It is said that the new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, is not so committed to the proposals. He is reported as saying that it is a matter for London and Londoners. He will have concerns about climate change, noise, air pollution and transport. Given his desire to invest in northern projects, will he really think that £49 billion is good value.

Meanwhile Heathrow has said they agree that local voices must be heard, but that they know from their polling that communities support their plans for expansion. You have to wonder where they have done their polling, given the opposition across south west London.

There have of course been seven Prime Ministers in the last ten years.

Waitrose Car Park East Sheen: A New Regime

Cameras have now been installed in the Waitrose Car Park, enabling Automatic Number Plate Recognition, to enforce Britannia Parking Conditions. The signage is somewhat misleading. It reads that the car park is regularly patrolled by mobile parking enforcement teams. Has anyone seen them?

But don’t be misled because the small icon at the bottom of the picture refers to ANPR. And the cameras will enable stricter enforcement of the time limits. So if you shop, return home and then go back to get something you forgot, the company is likely to try to extract a penalty. You might have slipped in for ten minutes and then return. You will still fall foul of the conditions. You might have parked and gone to the surgery. Tough.

This looks to be typical of the aggressive attitude these money-making organisations adopt.

The cameras are sited at the entrance to the car park just to the right of the side door.

BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY
